Business Development Manager


Position purpose

The purpose of the Business Development Manager role is to lead and shape a growing, fast paced sales team to ensure that targets are met and by extension, that business goals are also met and revenue is increased. This role will also provide significant forecasting and reporting for senior management in the business.

Main tasks

Core objectives include:
  • Identifying new sales leads
  • Pitching products and/or services
  • Identify, pursue and close new business opportunities
  • Maintaining fruitful relationships with existing customers
  • Understanding company and products/services and promoting
  • Coordinating sales efforts with company target and marketing
  • Helping determine pricing schedules for quotes, promotions,
    and negotiations.
  • Meeting or exceeding sales goals.
Day-to-day duties

  • Researching organizations and individuals online (especially on social media) to identify new leads and potential new markets
  • Researching the needs of other companies and learning who makes decisions about purchasing
  • Contacting potential clients via email or phone to establish rapport and set up meetings
  • Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives
  • Attending meetings, and industry events
  • Visiting jobsites or client’s yard /office to evaluate needs or
    promote products and services
  • Answering client questions about credit terms, products, prices
    and availability.
  • Giving sales presentations to current or prospective clients
  • Generating leads.
Main duties

  • Contacting clients to inform them about new developments in the company’s products
  • Developing quotes and proposals
  • Develop new and existing customer relationships by leveraging a consultative sales approach that results in increased sales and customer satisfaction
  • Be responsible for sales pipeline, account plan development and budget/goal management
  • Negotiating and renegotiating by phone, email, and in person Training personnel and helping team members develop their skills
  • Report to management pipeline progress and get pricing approved

  • Negotiating all contracts with prospective clients.
  • Preparing and submitting sales contracts for orders

  • Obtaining deposits and balance of payments from clients

  • Weekly and monthly reports about market and following major projects / customers
  • Maintaining client records

  • Qualifications in sales or personal development is well regarded,
  • A degree in business or marketing ideal for this position


  • CRM experience
  • Relevant commercial experience leading and managing a fast-
    paced team
  • Construction industry experience,
  • Office 365 in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
